Sounds of Antici......pation

The anticipation is absolutely killing me slowly.  I have much to look forward to about the next week or so.  I get to have visits with lots of people, old and recent, friends and mentors.  All combined with my second visit to the dentist within the past week.  I should not expect anything less with the way I have been taking care of my teeth.  But no worries, nothing serious, just a little fixing up and all will be well.

Then the fun will begin.  On Saturday, I get to visit with my friends from school and just celebrate the hard year that we have had together. The fact that we have made it out alive is something to celebrate.  Also, I will be saying goodbye to my friend Cindy as she heads out to her internships (note the plurality).  She is going to do so well and I wish her nothing but the best with what she will do this summer.  I know that Cindy is going to go far, and I cannot wait to see what all will happen.  Then I will get to call everyone and tell them about how I know this wonderfully talented individual.  Saturday will be a day of celebration and what all is to come within the next year.

What is really getting my attention and excitement is the trip to the best place that has ever been created.  My trip to Camp Lutheridge starts on Sunday and will last a whole week.  I will get to have the most amazing time with some of the best youth (so I hear) from the southern most state.  While there I will get to lead youth on the Group Interaction Course, lead Initiatives, share some of the best food prepared by the best chef ever, go on a creek walk, and have fun with them at Sliding Rock in Pisgah Forest.  This will most definitely be a highlight of the week for me.  The last time I remember going was when I was much younger and I had family living in Arden.  I remember having great fun, but the water was super cold.  I expect it to be cold this time around too, but in a more refreshing way.  Nothing can be more exciting than spending a week out in God's Creation with some of the best people in the world.  The best part about being with these youth is the chance to have an impact on their life and share God's Love with them.  I know that I love working with youth and kids whenever I get the chance and I just have a feeling that this week is going to be very special.

There is definitely pain in my heart that I cannot be on staff for the summer (do not get me wrong I am very excited about my internship with Heritage).  But when you spend two summers with some of the most amazing people and knowing that you cannot return for the whole summer, there is a little heartache.  Lutheridge changed my life and gave me friends to have for a lifetime.  Every time that I go back I get to put all the excitement I had from my first summer into (usually) a weekend retreat.  The fact that this retreat will last for a whole makes me feel really great.  I hope that I will be able to return next summer in some capacity, but we will just have to wait and see.  Also, summer staff will begin arriving at the same time, so I cannot wait to see some of my old friends again.

After that lots of preparation begins to get ready for my summer in Virginia and my 21st birthday as well.  Friends and family will be around for the celebration and I just know that it will be the best time.  I'm hoping that a little vacation will be in the works around the big day, but I will share about that when it comes to fruition.  Until then, I simply wait in anticipation of what is to come in the next few days, and take it all day by day.

Sounds of Waiting

So, the most grueling part of the summer has already begun.  The wait that lasts over a month has begun and cannot seem to go any faster than the world would like.  It seems that a lot has happened in the first week of this wait, but I'm a little reluctant as to what this wait has in store.

My parents came to Greensboro last Saturday to help me move out of the apartment I have been living in since this time last year.  That was the most difficult move I have ever made.  The move made it to be the end of my time with Sam as my roommate and also means that Sam moves on to be an adult (as we call it down here in the South).  I wish nothing but the best for Sam and Alex as they make the move to Brooklyn  over the next month and I know that I cannot wait to visit them VERY SOON!

Although I was able to go back to Greensboro yesterday to grab the last few things I had left at the apartment there was a lot of waiting up until that point.  Of course, I have friends around the Raleigh area that I could see, but it seems a lot of them have begun their vacations and/or internships.  The most exciting part of what has been the last week happened within the past 24 hours.  I was lucky enough to have to see my buddy Andy off for his trip to Las Vegas to celebrate his 21st birthday with friends.  He got to experience all that Holly Springs has to offer (which we all know isn't much).  4:15 am came early this morning, but none the less it was great to spend some time with a great friend before he got to begin his summer adventures.  I of course wish him nothing but the best on his trip, and hope he wins a lot of money. :)

Since I was up at 4:15 am to take Andy to the airport, I felt compelled to stay up as I could not go back to sleep.  I got to have one of my favorite past times, watching an hour of Boy Meets World this morning.  Of course, since it was about 7 am at the time, my parents were getting ready for work.  My mom said something to me that really hit me, and it hit me hard.  She said, "I can't believe you are watching Cory and Topanga!"  Of course I immediately defended my choice of viewing and said that the show reminded me of my childhood.  She quickly replied, "Exactly.  I can't believe you are watching this as a 21 year old!"  **My 21st birthday is in exactly one month**  It made me think.  She was right to an extent.  I was watching a show that I viewed when I was in middle school almost 10 years ago.  Why?  Besides the fact that I could "relive my youth" I honestly could not tell you why.  But I got to thinking.  I was so willing to relive the memories I had as a child, but what was I willing to do to further my future?  I have a month long "wait" before the next step towards becoming an adult begins.  I have a "year-long wait" until that step is taken, but I realized that I can only hold on to so much.  Although I want to live in my youth as long as possible, the steps are getting closer and closer together towards a new life from what I know now.  Of course that is a scary thought for me.  If the waiting that I have had to endure over the past few days is any indication of what could happen, then boy should I be worried.  But I do not think that this waiting will be.  I think that while I want to hold on to what I know, a new future and bright beginnings will be great.  I'll just have to see what the future holds, but until then I guess I will just have to wait.

Sounds of the End

So I've decided that I'm going to start a blog about my adventures this summer with my first theatre job on the horizon.  Although I don't start work for about another month there is lots to do until then.  Luckily I am excited about every step of getting me to my summer.

With classes and exams ending (one essay to write!) the end of Junior Year is all but bittersweet.  I would say that even though I have had one of the toughest years of schooling to date, I have grown so much.  It's saddening to know that in less than 5 days, Sam and I will no longer be roommates.  Sam has been the best roommate that I could have ever asked for (really Sam you have been).  Being able to live with someone who understands the lifestyle I live and the crazy schedule that it entails is so amazing.  I come home every night just being able to say anything about my day and what's to come and Sam would listen to it all, through the good and the bad.  That is truly amazing and I know that I'm going to miss the time that Sam and I have shared together.  I know that he is going to be doing amazing things when he moves to NYC this summer and I wish him all the best.  Crazy to think that a year has gone by and while living in this house and I will cherish all the memories that Sam and I have shared.

But before I move out and get one step closer to my summer away in VA, this week still has to happen.  I'll be going to see the show Sam is currently working on at Triad Stage called Steel Magnolias.  I cannot wait to see this show and I get to see it with a very special guest.  Sam's girlfriend Alex is coming into town this week and we get to go see the show together.  This will be a very exciting evening for sure!  Also, I get to attend a VIP party thing at the Durham Performing Arts Center to get a preview of the Broadway Season that will be coming to Durham next year.  Who knows what will happen at this event, but I'm sure that it will be one to remember.  Also, Sam's graduation ceremony is on Friday.  I of course will be in attendance.  I mean, how could I not?  Seeing someone who has become a best friend to me graduate is of the utmost importance.

So, I mentioned something about the end of Junior Year being all but bittersweet.  Here's where I get to that part.  I've had a challenging year with my academics and have been pushed to the limit with what I can do, but in a good way.  This year is also the same time that I have started to realize who I will be friends with beyond the hallowed streets of UNCG.  It's going to be difficult not seeing them everyday for the next three months.  Yes, of course there is social networking, and the vast advancements in technology in order to communicate with them, but not physically being around them is going to be difficult.  I've put a lot of trust in these people and I just know that the summer is going to be different.  I cannot wait until August arrives for when we can all be around each other again, but of course not until I have my summer away.  But until then, I'll focus on what I've got left of this week and soak it all up while I still can.
